KOH                              NaOH

The electrolyte allows the dry cell to conduct the electrolysis process, converting distilled water into Hydrogen and Oxygen when electrical current is applied. Baking Soda, or other electrolytes are not only damaging to the fuel cell, but they are very inefficient and will not produce nearly enough output. We recommend either Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide for use in our HHO Fuel Systems.

Potassium Hydroxide is our preferred choice of electrolyte. It can be purchased in various quantities online from: AAA CHEMICALS. They provide excellent customer service, and their products measure up to our expectations, both in quality and shipping practices. We typically recommend starting out with the 2 pound container of KOH - under normal driving patterns, this will usually last a minimum of 6 months to power your HHO dry cell system.

Sodium Hydroxide is another option for electrolyte. While not as soluble as KOH, and does not run quite as clean in the system - it is more readily available, and will definitely do the job. Sodium Hydroxide can be purchased at most hardware stores in the form of drain cleaner. Roebic is a high quality brand providing a great product in their "Crystal Drain Opener." Be sure to check the label and make sure it says 100% Sodium Hydroxide before purchasing an alternate manufacturer's brand. NaOH can also be acquired in various quantities through AAA CHEMICALS.

WARNING: Both KOH and NaOH are highly caustic chemicals - care must be taken during use - gloves and safety glasses should be worn at all times when in contact with these substances!
